Rory MacLean, who set out with his debut (Stalin’s Nose) to show that Europe didn’t end at the Berlin Wall, as Western propaganda had it during the Cold War, has gone further east with his new travel book – to what he calls “the last tiny bastion of Soviet Communism”. He will be discussing Back in the USSR: Heroic Adventures in Transnistria, on which he worked with the photojournalist Nick Danziger, on January 21 at 7.30pm in the Bristol branch of Stanfords. For details, see the Stanfords website.
