The long list for the 2023 Banff Mountain Book Competition was announced yesterday. Among books included are (in environmental literature) The Saviour Fish: Life and Death on Africa’s Greatest Lake by Mark Weston, which was one of my favourites of 2022, and (in non-fiction mountain literature) A Line Above the Sky: On Mountains and Motherhood by Helen Mort — who was joint winner with the same book of last year’s Boardman Tasker Prize.
