I’ve got no interest in flies — except when swatting them away from a plate. So why was I so taken with The Fly Trap by the entomologist Fredrik Sjöberg, which was recently published in paperback by Penguin? Partly because, although he lives on a tiny island (3 x 4 km) east of Stockholm, he’s not bound by it. He ranges far beyond it — and the subject of hoverflies — in his mind and his writing.
