Highland Book Prize long list

Books on the dozen-strong long list for the 2025 Highland Book Prize include Pathfinding: On Walking, Motherhood and Freedom by Kerri Andrews (Elliott & Thomson); Drifting North: Finding a sustainable future in Scotland’s past by Dominic Hinde (Manchester University Press); and The Edge of Silence: In Search of the Disappearing Sounds of Nature by Neil Ansell (Birlinn). The award is open to books of any genre written by authors who live in the Highlands or were born there, as well as books whose content is Highland-themed. The short list will be announced in May and the winner named in June.

Last year the prize went to the Shetland journalist Jen Stout for Night Train to Odesa: Covering the Human Cost of Russia’s War (Berlin) — a book that was recently short-listed for the new £10,000 Sherborne Prize for Travel Writing.
