Book of the month on the Caught by the River site is The Book of Bogs: Stories from a Yorkshire Moor and Other Peatlands, edited by Anna Chilvers and Clare Shaw (Little Toller). There’s an extract from a powerful piece by Shaw on the threatened peatland of Walshaw Moor, a place for which she has a deep and particular affection:
“It is okay – more than okay – to love where you live. It makes the world better. Loving place leads to deeper understanding; understanding leads to better care – not just for one place, but for all. I love Walshaw Moor; and because of this, I love all moors.”
