In a front-page story last year, The Observer suggested that Raynor Winn’s bestseller The Salt Path — an account of her walk along the South West Coast Path with her terminally ill husband — was far from being “unflinchingly true”. Since then, the journalist who wrote the original story, Chloe Hadjimatheou, has uncovered more details. In a seven-part podcast series released yesterday, The Walkers: The real Salt Path, she hears from friends, neighbours and family members of Winn’s and suggests that the extent and depth of deceit might be greater than first reported.
