I’ve never used a guidebook from Frommer’s (Rough Guides, Lonely Planet and Footprint have been my most reliable companions), but I’m conscious of the way Arthur Frommer, who has died at 95, transformed the way Americans travel with his first book, Europe on 5 Dollars a Day.
