Good to see that the long list for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing, published yesterday, includes Alastair Humphreys’ Local (Eye Books). It’s an inspiring account of the discoveries to be made close to home, on turf you may long have taken for granted. In all, 35 books have been long-listed for Wainwright Prizes: for writing on nature, on conservation, and for children on either subject. The short lists will be announced on August 15.
