The short lists were announced this morning for the Wainwright Prize for writing on nature, on conservation, and for children on either subject. Among the books are Local by Alastair Humphreys and The Garden Against Time by Olivia Laing (nature); and Blue Machine: How The Ocean Shapes Our World by Helen Czerski and Fire Weather by John Vaillant (conservation).
