I mentioned recently Simon Barnes’s piece on the Badlands National Park for Intelligent Life, sister magazine of The Economist. In a podcast for Intelligent Life, Barnes discusses with Matthew Sweet how the national parks system, which celebrates its centenary this year, has changed American culture: the kind of landscape that was once feared (as the name “Badlands” reminds us) is now cherished.
