I’ve mentioned before here the work of Amy Liptrot. Her first book, The Outrun, is published this week by Canongate and was featured yesterday in both The Observer and The Independent on Sunday. It’s a memoir of addiction and recovery, and the role played in the latter by nature and writing. Hardly a travel book, then, but it’s powerfully evocative of place and of the cycle of the seasons on Orkney. It’s currently Book of the Week on Radio 4.
