In the state of Grand Theft Auto

Three teenagers have just been charged over the stabbing and robbery in London this week of a 23-year-old man who was on his way home after queuing to buy the latest version of the video game Grand Theft Auto. Had he got home unscathed, he would doubtless have  switched on his computer and been carried away to Los Santos. Such are the sales of GTA, says Sam Sweet in The New Yorker, that by this weekend there will be more people living in that  imaginary state than in the real city on which it was modelled. What kind of a place is it?
