I’m currently featuring an extract from The Moor by William Atkins, which was recently short-listed for the Thwaites Wainwright Prize and is now out in paperback (Faber & Faber). It’s a passage about the Chains, the wettest part of Exmoor, and you can feel the damp as you read it.

When the book came out in hardback, Atkins tramped across Haworth Moor, in Brontë Country, with Mariella Frostrup, presenter of Radio 4’s Open Book, and John Bowen, professor of 19th-century literature at the University of York. You can still hear the programme on Soundcloud.
