The short list was announced last night for the 2024 Edward Stanford Travel Book of the Year (including two of my own favourites, High Caucasus by Tom Parfitt and The Granite Kingdom by Tim Hannigan). Short lists were also revealed for the Viking award for fiction with a sense of place (including the first novel by the travel writer Nick Hunt, Red Smoking Mirror) and the children’s travel book of the year. The short list for new travel writer of the year, an award sponsored by the publisher Bradt, will be announced in the new year.
