The Inuit’s new struggle for survival

Martin Fletcher, for the Telegraph Magazine, reports from Pond Inlet, an Inuit settlement on the north-eastern shore of Baffin Island, on “the destruction… of a culture that was based on hunting, kinship and survival…, and the void that has replaced it”.

In the archives of Telegraph Travel, there’s another piece from Baffin Island by Jim Perrin, who was also lucky enough to see “the unicorn of the deep” – the narwhal.

A 21st-century footnote. When I logged into my site to link to Fletcher’s piece, I found in the quarantine queue several hundred spam messages. The top one, by weird concidence, linked to a site offering fake versions of jackets branded “Canada Goose” – the company that financed Fletcher’s trip.
