For the second year in a row, a Slovenian photographer has taken the overall award in the British-based Travel Photographer of the Year competition. AndreJa Ravnak follows Matjaz Krivic, who picked up the title in 2022. She won with pictures of hop-growing in Slovenia and rolling fields in Italy and Czechia (the Czech Republic), images which, the judges say, “combine a fairytale beauty with the structure one might expect from her ‘regular job’ as an architect”.

Amateur and professional photographers from more than 150 countries submitted more than 20,000 pictures to the competition. The winners – which can all be viewed online at tpoty.com — will go on display at the Photography & Video Show at the NEC, Birmingham, from March 16 to 19.
