Philip Marsden’s Under A Metal Sky: A Journey Through Minerals, Greed and Wonder, was reviewed in The Guardian on Saturday by Charlie Gilmour. Marsden’s enthusiasm for the subject “is contagious”, Gilmour says, and “he writes with a rock-collector’s eye for glittering details. One senses this is a book he has been longing to write for years.”
In the first of an occasional series in Geographical magazine on the life and works of great travel writers, Ethel Crowley’s subject is Dervla Murphy, who died in 2022.
The explorer Erling Kagge will be talking about his new book, The North Pole: The History of an Obsession, in a conversation with the author and broadcaster Nicholas Crane at Stanfords bookshop in London on the evening of February 27.
