Stanley Stewart’s cover story last weekend for Discover, the print travel section of The Sunday Telegraph,  was an old-fashioned one — and I don’t mean that as a criticism. These days, for a piece to be given such prominence, it generally has to be newsy, mark an anniversary of some kind, or be hung on a peg in the shape of, say, a new book or film. Unless I missed something, Stewart’s piece didn’t satisfy any of those criteria (thought it might help the Telegraph sell some of the Douro tours with its wine writer being advertised alongside). It was simply a good story of a journey, beautifully told. If you missed it, it’s now online.
