Love in the gardens

When the novelist Zadie Smith made her first trip from London to the Continent with her father, it was the parks and public gardens they enjoyed most. After her father’s death she moved to Rome, and discovered the Borghese Gardens – a place, she is certain, “that would have made us both happy”. In The New York Review of Books, she explains why.
